Former MP Adwoa Safo Hospitalised After Alleged Shooting Near Brother’s Residence

Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is receiving medical treatment after gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle near the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the premises of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s residence, where he was reportedly organising supporters in connection with efforts to install him as successor to his late father, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.

Police from the Dome District Command were alerted and quickly deployed to the scene to provide security as tensions escalated. Witnesses claim Adwoa Safo was present in the area when armed men opened fire on her vehicle.

Joy News reported that attackers discharged approximately 15 rounds of ammunition during the incident, with one bullet reportedly grazing the former legislator near her neck. A source close to the former MP said the weapon used appeared to be a pump-action gun, causing pellets to spread and inflict injuries around her upper body, with some pellets causing injuries under her neck and on her chest. No official statement had been issued by the police or the Kristo Asafo Mission at the time of filing, and investigations into the shooting are expected to be ongoing. The alleged attack comes amid a deepening dispute over leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission, a transition complicated further by a recent court injunction halting plans for Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s installation as leader.
